Laurie R. King is the New York Times and Washington Post best-selling author of Justice Hall. Here, she returns to Folly Island for an intensely suspenseful psychological thriller.

Allen Carmichael, a Vietnam veteran turned rescuer of abused children, lives on the fringes of society. When Allen comes to the aid of 12-year-old Jamie O'Connell, he begins an unforgettable sequence of events that may destroy him.

Ferrone's voicing of the child almost ruined it,bot the story and the writing were strong, more than strong enough to overcome.
I'm s huge fan of this author and have read (or listened to) most of what she's written. She writes strong characterizations in all of her work, but
I think this novel may embody the most psychologically acute.
Very painful return to Vietnam.

Psychologically acute

I have been a fan of Laurie King, but this story was a little bit too over the top graphic for me. Yes, what war and trauma do to people has a profound effect on them... but there were places where it was traumatic just to listen to it. I liked the narrator, though... well presented story.

a bit much for me

Laurie R. King's ability to create mind pictures is breathtaking and Richard Ferrone's voicing of an amazing story brings it truly to life. I hope that Alan, Jerry, Ray and all of the other wonderful characters created for Folly and Keeping Watch will come back to visit once again. They are all truly real to me now.

Breathtaking....
