No one wants to miss out. But our culture is changing so rapidly we all feel like outsiders. What if that's exactly what Jesus wants? It's time to leave behind the fear of missing out and embrace JOMO: the joy of missing out!

You probably feel more like an outsider in our culture today than you did ten years ago. If that's the case, you're not alone. The question is, what kind of outsider will you become? Will you become a combative outsider and rage against your enemies? Will you become a conformist outsider and mirror the world around you? Will you become a conflict-averse outsider and avoid confrontation at all costs?

Jesus has so much for you. He's called you to be a joyful outsider like him. He was crucified as an outcast outside the city. Now he welcomes you to join him; to die to yourself and discover that sacrificial love has the power to change the world.

In Joyful Outsiders, pastors Patrick Miller and Keith Simon will train you how to be a joyful outsider by laying out six ways to navigate a confusing culture at home, at work, and beyond. They draw on the examples of biblical characters to introduce six types of joyful outsiders: the artist, the protestor, the builder, the advisor, the ambassador, and the trainer. In Joyful Outsiders, you will:

  • Discover joy by embracing your identity as an outsider
  • Find which of the six ways God is calling you to follow
  • Experience freedom from fear of the world and anger toward it
  • Learn how to both resist and cultivate the world around you

You might be an outsider in today's world, but that doesn't mean Jesus can't use you to change it. God wants to guide you into your calling, train you for action, and equip you to become a confident, Christlike culture changer.

Appreciated the excellent illustrations which did not detract from the book, but added to the point.

The authors go through six different types of Christian personalities: artists, advisors, builders, ambassadors, trainers, and protesters. They do a good job of explaining details of each personality in addition to strengths and weaknesses to make it easier for readers to determine which persona best fits them. The authors go to great lengths to explain that Christians work within each of these personas throughout their lives, but that one will stand out as their primary calling. It’s a good read and probably best suited for those younger in the faith who don’t have a clear hold of their spiritual gifts or a clear understanding of how to use their talents for God‘s glory within His kingdom. Overall, a worthwhile read.

Great read on spiritual personas

Flipt the Script from FOMO to JOMO

I was blessed to be able to be a part of the launch team for this book. I've been listening to their Truth over Tribe podcast after reading the book (recommended by a friend at church).

I love Jesus with all my heart, yet I always seem to walk a fine line between my faith and the world. How can I follow Jesus and still fit in? This book is helping me to understand why being a "Joyful Outsider" is possible.

Jesus is an outsider. I desire to be like Him and continue to learn how to live in this world without being in it.

I love the story of Bill and Susan...I also did the accompanying assessment and I am an Ambassador and Trainer. It has been helpful to understand the Key Insight, Orientation toward Culture, Guiding Principles, and Shadow Side of each.

Thank you, Patrick & Keith

Let's keep being Joyful Outsiders!!!
