"An uplifting tale, suffused with a karmic righteousness that is, at times, exhilarating." Wall Street Journal

Rebecca Frankel's Into the Forest is a gripping story of love, escape, and survival, from wartime Poland to a wedding in Connecticut.

In the summer of 1942, the Rabinowitz family narrowly escaped the Nazi ghetto in their Polish town by fleeing to the forbidding Bialowieza Forest. They miraculously survived two years in the woods—through brutal winters, Typhus outbreaks, and merciless Nazi raids—until they were liberated by the Red Army in 1944. After the war they trekked across the Alps into Italy where they settled as refugees before eventually immigrating to the United States.

During the first ghetto massacre, Miriam Rabinowitz rescued a young boy named Philip by pretending he was her son. Nearly a decade later, a chance encounter at a wedding in Brooklyn would lead Philip to find the woman who saved him. And to discover her daughter Ruth was the love of his life.

From a little-known chapter of Holocaust history, one family’s inspiring true story.

Rebecca slides an excellent job describing a detailed portion of the Holocaust not well known to many. Tough to listen to at times due to the horrid experiences many Jewish Pohls had to endure.

A must read to bring more awareness to one of just several untaught or lesser known accounts from the Holocaust

I've always been intrigued by that eventful time period. And I learned, in detail, about their challenging journey to simply live.

Telling, touching, truthful

I truly enjoyed listening to the story of what the Holocaust survivors went through. It opened my eyes to some things I did not know already. What happened to the Jews during World War II is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard of. It’s heartbreaking, but to hear the stories of, the strong who survived is nothing short of amazing.

Wonderful story of terrible history

Both painful and joyful, and so surprised to never have known these stories. An important book, well-written and delivered.

A must-listen

If this genre is your interest, then you will find this a very personal and detailed telling of the nazi occupation in Poland from the point of view of two actual survivors. Well worth your time.
