The Cold Case Squad has a problem: Someone won’t stop taunting Detective Everett Larkin. He’s been able to apprehend some of the worst criminals to ever stalk the streets of New York City, thanks in great part to forensic artist and boyfriend, Ira Doyle, but after their last case, events have taken a turn for the worse. A body recovered from the Hudson River bears a message addressed to Larkin and another token from Victorian mourning culture. As nineteenth-century hair jewelry leads Larkin deeper into the growing tangle of interconnected crimes, it becomes evident that solving these mysteries will come at a profound cost. To be a good detective, Larkin will have to endure sleepless nights—lest the sender act on their threat against his partner—as well as put his relationship on the line when clues lead in the direction of Doyle’s past. What began as a game of cat and mouse has turned into a fight for love and life itself.

Once again, Poe has penned a riveting adventure where Larkin and Doyle draw ever closer to Larkin's own Napoleon of Crime. This modern riff on the many adventures of Holmes and Watson is more poignant, grittier, and pulse pounding than the great Victorian detective. Poe is an elegant writer, and has spun out this ferocious cat and mouse over several books. I am so looking forward to the next. Kale Williams is nothing short of superb in his performance of these books. This latest is a tour de force.

This series gets better with each listen. Narration is top-notch and the continuation of the story is decently paced. I was able to get a better sense of the overall ongoing story as it gets deeper into characters as well as a he relationship of Larkin and Doyle. Eagerly looking forward to the e next. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m having trouble putting into words how good this was. Watching Larkin & Doyle grow even closer, be deeply vulnerable with each other while learning each other’s secrets… I love them. Especially how Larkin steps up when it’s Doyle that needs him finally. I will be sat, waiting for the next one.

Larkin and Doyle are back with searching for the mysterious killer who is taunting Larkin with murders and links to people in his life. Larkin is still feeling the after effects of the last case where he almost lost Doyle. Not wanting to let anything happen Larkin and Doyle are working their way through the connected cold cases web of lies and death to find the mysterious Adam Worth without the worry of losing the love of their lives. C.S. Poe has out done herself with the wonderfully complex story, the deeper connection Doyle and Larkin makes your heart sigh and cry with the heartbreak and the anticipation for the next case to keep you come ing back for more. Kale Williams always brings the gold when narrating Doyle and Larkin. His sweet voice and lovely heart can be felt with every word that no one can ever replace for them both.

Swoon worthy love and murder

Cold case detective Everett Larkin keeps getting pulled into murder mysteries by a puppet master. While Larkin’s brain injury induced memory anomaly helps him with police work, it makes his life otherwise difficult AF. Luckily he’s s found a new partner that fits like a puzzle piece into both his personal and professional life. The extremely slow burn romance finally takes a step forward.

Titillating addition to an ongoing series. Well written story and characters you can’t help but love. Delicious sarcasm. Kale’s smooth voiced narration is spot on. I can’t wait for more 🧡
