She was sent to the Highlands as a discarded prize. He was a broken Laird with nothing left to lose.

Lady Isabella Hartford is "damaged goods." Traumatized and declared barren after a brutal attack at the English court, she is exiled by King Edward to the rugged Scottish wilds. Her fate? A political marriage to a man as scarred as she is.

Laird Lachlan MacKinnon is a shadow of the warrior he once was. Having lost his leg at the Battle of Corrievrack Pass, he accepts his English bride with bitter resignation. He expects a silent, dutiful wife; he doesn't expect a woman who looks at a battlefield and sees a winnable game of chess.

In a land of ancient feuds, a woman’s greatest weapon isn't her beauty—it’s her mind.

Isabella isn't just an intruder; she’s a strategist. When Drummond spies circle the MacKinnon gates, it’s not a claymore that defends the walls, but Isabella’s tactical brilliance. As she earns the respect of a clan that hated her, she finds herself drawn to the brooding Laird who sees past her scars.

But when a former lover’s betrayal exposes Isabella’s deepest secrets, and three hundred warriors lay siege to the castle, the "broken" bride must lead an ingenious defense.

To save her new home, Isabella must risk everything—including the heart she swore would never beat for a man again.

Heart of a Highlander is a sweeping, emotional historical romance featuring a fiercely intelligent heroine, a wounded hero, and a love that defies kings. Perfect for fans of Outlander and The Last Kingdom.

Long story line

Story was not edited. Story jumped around and would have various version of the same scene in a jumbled order. I was confused, thinking I must have replayed a chapter, and I must have missed things that was being referred that happened.
Story could have been decent but really not worth the listen.
