Gus Freeman is a retired detective inspector who has spent the past three years alone.

Freeman’s wife, Tess, died from a brain aneurysm six months to the day after his retirement. He is still coming to terms with his enforced solitary existence.

His old boss wants Gus to head up a Crime Review Team investigating cold cases. Old witness statements plus fresh clues, and the hunt would be on. In this first case, the team tackles the brutal murder of Daphne Tolliver in June 2008. The sixty-eight-year-old widow was walking her dog, Bobby, in a woodland close to her home. Despite the efforts of detectives at the time, they never identified a single suspect. A reconstruction of Daphne’s last known moments on television five years later yielded nothing. Gus Freeman and his new team appear to have a tough nut to crack for their first case.

I throughly enjoyed the 1st installment in this series. The story is well written, and the narrator is amazing! Sadly the rest of the series has to be purchased so I won’t be able to continue with the series.

Nothing special but good enough to listen to while working in the garden. I will keep getting more as long as they are free, but wouldn’t spend a credit on one.

It was provided free so worth the cost. It is mildly interesting , a typical cold case British mystery.

Don’t waste your time. Lots of repetition. Most of book is about how Gus gets the job post retirement, ..,big woop. Not until chapter 7 does the author talk about the murder (hours into it). Repeating lots of facts. So stupid. Finally, I had enough & DNF, felt it was a waste of my time.
