A fractured Europe. A parallel world. A global threat.

Union has come. The Community is now the largest nation in Europe; trains run there from as far afield as London and Prague. It is an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity.

So what is the reason for a huge terrorist outrage? Why do the Community and Europe meet in secret, exchanging hostages? And who are Les Coureurs des Bois?

Along with a motley crew of strays and mafiosi and sleeper agents, Rudi sets out to answer these questions - only to discover the truth lies both closer to home and farther away than anyone could possibly imagine.

Dave Hutchinson’s Europe in Winter is his third installment in his Fractured Europe series. With this installment, the existence of this alternate ‘europe’ has become well known and most European polities are pursuing diplomatic relations as well as concerned about an eventual war. The story opens with a train bombing. The train crosses all of Europe and is a nation state itself. Rudi is back in the game trying to piece together events that have transpired.

Hutchinson continues to evolve the fracture of Europe as well as rise of alternative political entities. At the same time, the mutual coexistence of both regions seems in question. This installment consists of many separate smaller stories with Rudi attempting to piece things together.

The narration is quite good with excellent character distinction. Pacing is smooth.
