To save your life, would you sell your soul?

During the tribulation, Willow Archer intends to keep both. She just wants to live a simple life in her quiet Montana town. But when sinister forces begin rounding up Christians, she must make a tough choice: accept the mark of the beast, or run for her life?

Willow runs. With her brother and a few friends, she decides to flee to the mountains. Danger chases them every step of the way. Turns out, the forest holds its own set of perils—most of them deadly. Then the group discovers that their pursuers are still hot on their trail. Is it even possible to survive the end of the world? Willow and her band of believers are about to find out. Join their action-packed, suspenseful adventure today.

Love that it took off right from the start. No long introduction or character backstory. Instead you get right to the heart of the matter and get to know the characters as their world changes. I like the realness of the situations and the inner struggles of the characters. Though primarily you’re in the thoughts of a nearly 18yro girl trying to be a leader and protector to her brother, friends and a single mom with a very young daughter. Being Christians refusing the mark they’re being hunted not just by law enforcement but family members. I’ve read many books in this genre and while some things are somewhat predictable, this book weaves backstory, character emotions, inner struggles, seamlessly with their faith and what that means in times of uncertainty and survival. I was not bored at all and enjoyed the little twists/turns when they happened. I appreciate the continued struggle to follow God’s Word and Commands for us when a lot of people would focus more on themselves and immediate family members. This little Band of Believers have some compelling personal stories hinted at but primarily focuses on the inner thoughts of one. It flows very well without any gaps of information that might leave the reader feeling bored. I’m very excited for the next installment, book 2, Duplicity. According to the teaser at the end, audio should be available Spring 2026. So literally anytime now. I really enjoy this author. My first listen of her’s was the Mystery Babylon series. Fantastic and anxiously awaiting more. Unfortunately, it seems her other books are not yet available on Audible (Daughter of Babylon?). Only this first book, The Dissent, Band of Believers. It’s a quick listen at less than 6hrs. That’s probably the only thing I don’t like about it. I’d much rather have begun a series of multiple books that’d keep me entertained for a couple of weeks. That’s the only bummer. Now just a day and a half later I’m back on the hunt. Discovered JLG via Mark Goodwin Facebook post. Someone asked for authors he recommended and Jamie was one. I’ve literally consumed all of his books. So if you’re looking for your next listen while waiting for the next book in this series and you’ve already listened to her Mystery Babylon series, check out Mark Goodwin’s work. I love them ALL! You can’t go wrong. Days of Noah series followed by Days of Elijah series would be my first recommendations. They really are all good. Now I must go searching for my next listen until Duplicity is available. Enjoy!
