I’ve spent the better part of the last few years successfully avoiding my brother’s best friend, Weston Aldrich.
As CEO of Andes Inc, the infuriatingly handsome and incessantly grumpy Weston also happens to be my new boss.
It shouldn’t have been hard to continue avoiding him. After all, he’s on the executive floor, and I’m one of many copywriters.
Weston has his own ideas about how things should go between us. He’s in my emails, leaving notes on my desk, and as if that’s not enough, he arranges for me to accompany him on a business trip.
That leads to stolen touches, frenzied kisses, and the undeniable need to work each other out of our systems. That always works, right?
Except now that I know what it feels like to have Weston Aldrich appreciate every inch of my abundant curves, avoiding him is impossible.
But he’s my brother’s best friend. And a workaholic.
We have to stop. And we will. Soon. Just…not yet.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 🌶️🌶️🌶️✨ (3.5 peppers)
Dear Grumpy Boss kicks off The Harder They Fall series with a workplace romance between Weston and Elise that delivers steam, tension, and emotional growth.
Elise moves back to Denver after discovering her longtime boyfriend has been mocking her body behind her back (absolutely unforgivable). With the help of her very wealthy brother, she lands a copy editor position at his best friend Weston’s company. Weston is all business — he’s spent years building his company from the ground up and it shows in how seriously he takes it. When the two begin a relationship, it quickly becomes clear that while Weston is willing to try for something real, Elise wants to feel like a true priority in his life.
I enjoyed this one overall, especially Weston. He’s driven, focused, and clearly cares — even if he struggles to balance ambition with romance. His manipulative ex definitely stirred up drama, and I appreciated that he ultimately handled that situation firmly and decisively.
Elise’s insecurities are understandable given her past relationship, but at times she came across as a bit whiny. While her hurt is valid, expecting to immediately outrank a company he built from nothing felt unrealistic. That tension between career and relationship was very central to the story, and while it created solid conflict, it also made parts of the romance frustrating.
The audiobook narration by Allie Piper and Alastair Haynesbridge was well done and brought great depth to both characters.
If you enjoy grumpy boss energy, workplace tension, and a hero who has to learn how to prioritize love alongside ambition, this is a solid series starter.
The next books will focus on the other friends that we met in this book, and I am excited to see how they find love.
Fun boss/brother's best friend romance
