The modern classic of space opera that began with Children of Time continues in this extraordinary novel of humanity's battle for survival on a terraformed planet.

Earth failed. In a desperate bid to escape, the spaceship Enkidu and its captain, Heorest Holt, carried its precious human cargo to a potential new paradise. Generations later, this fragile colony has managed to survive, eking out a hardy existence. Yet life is tough, and much technological knowledge has been lost.

Then strangers appear. They possess unparalleled knowledge and thrilling technology – and they've arrived from another world to help humanity’s colonies. But not all is as it seems, and the price of the strangers' help may be the colony itself.

Children of Memory by Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning author Adrian Tchaikovsky is a far-reaching space opera spanning generations, species and galaxies.

This story could be about literally any medieval town during witch-hunts. It's barely fantasy. It has NOTHING to do with science fiction and has a weak and tenuous connection to the prior two books.

This story is NOT SCIFI!

Loved first two books but this one was more mixed especially the first 2/3 which was tedious due to the chopped up timeline and multiple points of view that resulted in many repetitions of facts which were already known. Also not much really happens in the book. It lacks narrative movement. The stakes never built up and the fictional reality felt too passive and summarized. Not his best work.

First 2/3 tedious but final 1/3 good.

Imagine a Star Trek episode set in the 'Children Of' universe. This is a phenomenal addition to a series which seemed impossible to improve upon. New concepts are added to the original themes of the first two books which contribute to the ongoing conversation about sentience without being gimmicky.

I hope there's a fourth

I have no idea how to sum up this book, only that I shall be re-reading it very soon. I think it might be one of the best series, let alone books I've ever had the pleasure of consuming.
