this story has many mind eyes descriptions of pathology science. The story follows a pathologist down a trail of corporate greed and unethical mystery. The main character is very likable and knowledgeable in her chosen profession. As the story twist around international drama I was caught in what would happen to hero of this story. I am looking forward to reading the next two books.

I did things a little backward here, starting with Book 2 in the series and then listening to Book 1 only afterwards. Fortunately, Book 1 was excellent as well. That said, I recommend listening to them in the intended order. Anyway, it's here that we first meet Dr. Sophie Cadeaux, a tango-dancing pathologist who takes on a corrupt and incompetent medical system where profits, politics and corner-cutting often compromise proper techniques for cancer screening. A tireless champion for women's health, Dr. Sophie perseveres despite the worst kinds of dirty tricks deployed against her by the bad actors in the system, who even go so far as to threaten her family while on a trip overseas. One can only hope there are doctors like this in real life, standing up for patients' rights. These audiobooks were narrated by the author, but she speaks very clearly, distinctly and with the proper emotion; thus, I felt they did not suffer for the lack of a professional narrator. I loved the voice narration of the author. It was easy to listen to and even though the story line was medical, it hooked me in because of the relentless pursuit of making the world right.

I'll start from the end - I feel for Alek, the heroine's son. If I ever needed a reminder of why I never considered a career in the medical field, here's one. Some chapters are better not read over lunch. But despite that, I was so engrossed in the story that I couldn't pause, no matter how late it was. A lone researcher uncovering the inconvenient truth and trying to get the message out despite fierce resistance from bureaucrats worried about their jobs and corporate executives only interested in their profits and bonuses - it's a situation that resonates with everyone. And when the subject is as sensitive as cancer... We follow the heroine's journey, wondering if she'll succeed and how she's gonna make it. The enemies are powerful and influential, but the heroine is not giving up, even when it seems as if all is lost.

Couldn't pause, no matter how late it was.

The story was pretty weak and slow moving. but with the narrator voicing all the characters not even, for example a man, different doctors etc. It was hard to follow and confusing because it was like she was reading a script.

I downloaded the 2nd book but will not bother reading it

Did not like the narrator
