The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight - telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend-smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done. Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant.
Only it turned out, the man I'd just told off wasn't the right guy. Oops. My mistake. Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology. I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right? That's what I thought...until I walked into class the next morning. Well, hello Professor West, I'm your new teaching assistant. I'll be working under you...figuratively speaking. Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing working under Professor West. This was going to be interesting.

Wow, I have to say that I loved this story. TBH, I picked this one because I got a deal on the audio and needed a book that would work for a category for a reading challenge I'm taking part in. I expected this to be a pretty typical story but the there's a definite twist that adds a lot and the ending is much more touching/deep than I expected.
Rachel is a college student that's getting her Doctorate in Musical therapy. Rachel works in a bar to work her way through school and doesn't have much time between her job at the bar, school and working as TA for the school. Rachel didn't have a good childhood and only has a sister for family.
Caine is a music professor who is known for being a stickler for punctuality and being a bit of a hard-butt. Caine used to be more wild and was a drummer in a rock band when he was young. Unfortunately, some major drama came just as Caine's band was getting signed to a major record label and he left the music industry and went back to college and eventually decided to teach music. Caine hasn't done well with relationships in the past and because of that he decided to just do meaningless sex and no relationships.
As the book blurb describes, Rachel and Caine meet when she accuses him of being the married jerk that messed her friend around and then she realizes her mistake. And the next day, she realizes the handsome jerk she wrongly told off is the professor she's been assigned to be a TA (teaching assistant) for. The story starts out pretty typical...they meet and there's a strong attraction but even after they get past their initial issues they're not together. Partially it's because she's a student and works for him as a TA but there are other reasons as well...mostly Caine's relationship issues. But even past that, there's a twist that I really didn't expect that moved things to a new level and was very touching. It takes some time and working through some major angst/drama but eventually Caine and Rachel are able to get past the issues in their way and the story ends with them together and on their way to a very well deserved HEA.
This was a great story and I enjoyed it a lot. But it also made me cry...sometimes because the story had sad moments but sometimes because parts were so touching (in a really good way) that I couldn't help but tear up (I'm doing so a little now as I think about those parts of the story). I loved the characters and their story really sucked me in and kept me completely engaged until the end. Overall, this was a great story that I would definitely recommend it but maybe time it so you don't read the ending in public (and have tissues handy). :D
* note - There were 2 Narrators, a female for the parts from Rachels PoV and a male for the parts from Caine's PoV. Both narrators did great jobs.
Great story! I loved it! :D
