A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook

Cerastes, Dark Apostle of the Word Bearers, is bowed but not broken. He returns to finish what he started – converting a holy Imperial world to the worship of Chaos.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
David Annandale brings back Cerastes, star of his short story Sacred Hate, and this time he's filled with righteous vengeance. But has he taken on more than he can handle as he contends with the hated Adepta Sororitas of the Order of the Thorn?

THE STORY
Legitur is a world devoted to the sacred writings of the Imperial Creed. Endlessly producing mountains of scripture, it considers itself an exemplar of piety. But there are deep secrets here – undreamt of by the ruling Ecclesiarchy, hidden amongst the shadows of the towering paper hives – and one being who was born of these secrets.

Cerastes, Dark Apostle of the Word Bearers, has returned to the world he once called home. Though his host has been crushed by the fearsome Palatine Aesura and her Sororitas of the Order of the Thorn, Cerastes’ dark ambition is undaunted. He will have his revenge. He will resurrect the Eightfold Bane. And he will convert the world he despises to the worship of Chaos. Legitur is about to receive the Word, and it will burn with the fires of revolution.

honestly this is probably one of the better word bear stories especially if you're not familiar with the dark legion. a modern 40K book I recommend

a dark story of faith

This is on par with Aaron Dembski-Bowden's Word Bearers from The First Heretic and Betrayer! In short: EXCELLENT! Fantastic character development; Cerastes and the cultists are so much more than just ambitious cartoon villains. The belief really stands out and their motivations are understandable.

The Word Bearers would be proud

Apostle shows something i've always wanted more books of, which is the formation of chaos cults, how they grow and become eventually a huge mass that cannot be reckoned with. I think this book does a fantastic job of this, though there are some issues like not really having a great sense of time. At the end of the book, i was left wondering... did this take place over weeks? Months? years?

Regardless, that is my singular complaint about the story itself. I will say that for a book focused on chaos, there were wonderful amounts of mutations and other such stuff. Another aspect i liked is that there are enemies in this book of our protagonist it was cool to finally see in a less heroic light! I cannot say which ones without spoiling, but as much as i like the faction, as with any other book they are usually portrayed to be more heroic to be sympathetic. In this book, i think they were portrayed really well, how others might see them. The voice actor does a pretty good job, especially with the word bearers. Some of the other characters are a little weaker but still good.

I really hope BL keeps up making more chaos focused books. I really, really enjoyed this one.

Really Solid

Never spent much time with the word bearers, this was a great way to get some lore and see how they operate. 10/10

Great book!
