Strap into a mortar-fired parachute, a rocket-powered ejection seat, and fly with Col Chuck Lehman in the fastest single engine jet fighter ever built, the F-106 Dart. Feel the exhilaration of hurtling through the blue at a mile every 2.35 seconds, the “G” forces, and the satisfaction of keeping the bad guys out of our airspace. You’ll laugh at some of these stories, sweat out a few, and ask, “How could he have been so stupid?” in others. These confessions bare it all. Sense what it was like to live and work as a fighter pilot in an environment of huge egos, unbridled confidence, and an eagerness to push it to the edge - and sometimes over it. As Chuck says, “Just keep the pointy end forward.” Also get acquainted with the F-102, F-86, Harrier, T-33, too, and even the ubiquitous Gooney Bird.

This is a well written book that gives an insight into the life of a jet pilot, in the 1960's. The author has a great sense of humor, and a lot of good stories.

This was one of those books that helped to keep me awake during a cross country trip.

Full of great flying stories.

This book is great! The window it gives into a 60s era fighter pilot's life is thrilling for anyone interested in the subject.
The narrator does a very good job and really puts the listener inside the various cockpits contained in the book.
Highest recommendations for all aviation lovers!

Exactly what I wanted!

Interesting stories about a seldom covered subject- namely the ADC & the F-106 and 102. The narration was irritating at times- constantly defining the same terms over and over “angels 45 - forty five thousand feet…” repeated each time an altitude is mentioned.
And MiG pronounced “em eye gee” 🙄😂
Otherwise a good read.

Rare to find a book about the F-102/106
