Ludger was supposed to be just another forgotten soul, reborn into a quiet life under the care of his young mother, Elaine. With nothing but a mysterious system in his vision and the faint promise of growth, he resigned himself to learning the humble trade of cooking. Knives, fire, seasoning—his skills grew sharper than his years, but it wasn’t the power-fantasy adventure he once dreamed of. That is, until one reckless night in the tavern, when a hooded mage and a simple spell shattered the illusion of normalcy forever.

Marked by the system as a prodigy, Ludger finds himself juggling more than just knives and plates. Every Job, every Class, every Master holds a new path forward, and he refuses to let his second life waste away like his first. From kitchen tricks to forbidden magic, his journey forces him to carve out his place in a world that rewards ambition—but punishes those who rise too quickly. Allies, enemies, and masters appear in unexpected places, and Ludger soon learns that every choice he makes reshapes not only his future, but the balance of power around him.

What begins as the daily grind of a precocious child slowly transforms into the legend of a boy who refuses to follow anyone’s script but his own. With wit, stubborn pride, and the determination to never be helpless again, Ludger steps onto the path of true ascendance—one coin, one skill, and one risky gamble at a time.

Great story but the mother is annoying as all get out. If she wants to take back the dad thats fine her being worried about son or even impeding a bit is fine. The issue is it never stops she takes trouble and issues that come up and makes them worse with her belly aching.

Son need to put foot down. With his strength not much they could do.

There was some repetitiveness throughout the book, but it was quite engaging from the beginning. The narrator had a good cadence and voice. Just be warned the smirking is overdone to the max, like in every conversation in every chapter someone is smirking, I think the words sharp and smirk were used close to 1000 times in the book, that could be a slight exaggeration, but not by much. I kind of wish I had a clicker to keep track of how many times either of those words came up. By the end you couldn't go a minute or two without hearing one of the two, "sharp determination, sharp look, sharp smile" I was waiting for the ultimate combo of sharp smirk but i didn't hear it. It did detract from the story somewhat and I hope the author uses other descriptors in any follow up books, but that being said I'll still purchase the sequel and would still recommend this one.

pretty good other than all the smirking and sharpness

I wouldn't actually give it a 5 star like its a masterpiece but its good enough to be worthy of a listen the only issues I found for the book that bother me are his motivations for strength feel shallow and his mother is a bit insane, not in a good way but in the annoying way. A great book for rise to power

Some books I'd rate above this - Primal Hunter series, Delvers LLC, Super sales on super heroes, Beware of Chicken, War Aeternus

Some books I'd rate below this - Outcast in another world, Dead Tired, Noobtown Series, The Beginning After the end, The Land Chaos Seed.

The story was incredibly captivating, and Ludgar’s cool and clever demeanor, coupled with the way he spoke, truly drew me in. The characters were fantastic, but the story could have delved deeper into its themes. The ending was somewhat disappointing, but I remain excited about the future developments. Additionally, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude to the narration team for their exceptional work. They infused the story with a delightful blend of humor and genuine emotion.

Has great potential.
