Carter Westwood is a living legend.
Well…maybe that’s just his ego; but he does have a legendary reputation in the small town of Terracotta, Georgia, where fires seem to rage only when he’s on shift at his department.
The one thing Carter loves more than being a firefighter is the prospect of being a husband and a father one day. Ready to put his days of one-night-stands and no-strings-attached relationships behind him, Carter meets a woman who is everything he’s ever wanted.
Just one problem:
She’s not looking for anything serious.
Inspired by the passionate love affair between Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, and Venus, the Roman goddess of beauty and fertility, comes the story of one firefighter’s desire to settle down with a labor and delivery nurse whose biggest fear is commitment.

Carter and Venus' love story is so raw and so real!
I cried of cause because then it wouldn't be an Ariel Anderson book lol but seriously the ending and when she saw him and she knew she couldn't live without him. I LOST IT!
RIP Trevor. That was hard to read but it shows what kind of person Carter is. and Venus stayed with him through the hurt, through the pain, and through the messy.
Also the ending could not have been more perfect. 100 stars.
Another beautiful story from Ariel Anderson ❤️

Amanda Willow is "V" and she is fabulous. Emotionally disconnected, she frustrated me creating her to be exactly as she should be. Nelson Hobbs is Carter, and he brings it. The pain and the passion are portrayed so genuinely, it was easy to understand and fall for him. Loved it!

Narration:
Amanda Willow and Nelson Hobbs performed this audiobook in duet. This story is an emotional ride, and both Amanda and Nelson nailed it. This was my first time listening to these two perform together, and I will absolutely be looking for more of their work. Amanda and Nelson were the perfect voices for Venus and Vulcan, and really brought the characters to life. Their performances elevated my experience with this story, and made it feel real.

I was really excited to listen to Venus after falling in love with Ariel Anderson’s debut book, Under Your Scars. I couldn’t wait to see her take on a small-town romance, especially with a setup featuring a firefighter hero and a labor and delivery nurse heroine. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me.
Carter’s character, while clearly meant to be intense and devoted, came off more obsessive and annoying than sweet and endearing. His fixation on Venus after their one-night stand felt over the top, and their emotional conflict never quite felt believable. It was hard to connect with either of them, and the overall tone and writing style felt so different from Anderson’s earlier work. Honestly, it’s hard to believe this came from the same author who delivered such depth and emotional weight in Under Your Scars. The writing here felt simplistic and unpolished, and the reference to her previous book within this one felt unnecessary and distracting.
That said, the narration was the standout. Amanda Willow brings a fun, sassy energy to Venus, and Nelson Hobbes did a fantastic job as Carter. Both narrators elevated the material and made the story easier to get through.
In the end, Venus just didn’t work for me, but the narration was strong enough to keep me listening.
Missed the Mark
